Police in Trans Nzoia are investigating four more mysterious deaths linked to suspects arrested at a home where the body of a woman was exhumed from a shallow grave.

Trans Nzoia DCI boss Paul Songok said the suspects have already been linked to the death of one more person in the county but more investigations were going on.

“There is a possibility that they are linked to several other cases and we thank residents for the crucial information we are receiving so far,” Songok said.

The county has in the recent weeks recorded a spate of mysterious murders. Songok said they were closing in on the suspects.

He said they are also hunting for more suspects involved in serious crime incidents in the county.

When police initially raided the house where the suspects were found, they recovered assorted items linking them to a robbery in the region.

The recovered items include a motorcycle, assorted mobile phones and a pair of jungle police uniforms.

Detectives from Kiminini subcounty and a team from Trans Nzoia county had visited the scene following a tip off by members of the public.

They managed to launch an operation in Mogoiywet and arrested two men who are suspected to be involved in a robbery with violence incident reported at the Maili Saba police post.

While at the home of one of the suspects, the police said they saw a freshly dug grave disguised as a mud hole for plastering a three-room house.

Songok said it was then that the police moved to court and obtained an exhumation order.

The woman whose body was exhumed from a shallow grave was identified as Alice Chemutai who was a resident of Kitale town.

Songok led homicide officers at the home where the body was exhumed.

Three suspects are in custody in connection with her death and secret burial among other crimes.

“We will prefer several charges against them including murder and robbery with violence.

The three men include one who was a lover to the deceased.

Elizabeth Kipkemboi, a sister to the deceased, said Chemutai went missing about two weeks ago from Kitale town.

“I can’t believe this is my sister found in this grave and we really don’t know what happened,” Kipkemboi said.

She said the deceased who is a mother of one, had been in a relationship with one of the suspects for the last three months.

“She never complained about any fears but just went missing and we had been looking for her all over,” Kipkemboi said.

The suspects had leased the house where the body was found three months ago.

Police said they were using it as a hide out as they engaged in crime.

“We will do a postmortem on the body to establish how the deceased was murdered,” Songok said.

The body which had been had been buried about two feet deep, was found in clothes and wrapped in a blanket.

Residents said the area had in the recent past witnessed increasing crime and urged the police to intensify patrols.
