Narok law court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of robbery with violence and an alternative count of handling stolen goods.

Dominic Mwangi Kaburu appeared before Narok Chief Magistrate Hebron Nyaberi who charged him for robbing a motorbike rider Stanley Lemayian his motorcycle valued at Sh150, 000, a mobile phone valued at Sh18, 500, Sh7750,  trouser and a jacket all valued at Sh176, 550.

After the robbery, the culprit allegedly threatened to use violence on the rider as he was armed with a dagger.

Kaburu faced an alternative charge of retaining the motorcycle, jacket and phone, yet he knew they were stolen goods.

He was arrested on October 18, 2024, at the Nairegie Enkare area in Narok East subcounty.

The court heard that on the material day, the culprit approached the motorcycle rider at around 8pm seeking to be transported to the Ilmashariani area, in Narok Central subcounty for Sh200.

Before reaching their agreed destination, Kaburu is said to have requested the rider to join a murram road on the left side of the road.

After riding for about three kilometres, the customer asked him to stop in a nearby bush and threatened him with a knife.

Minutes later, another person allegedly appeared with a panga, who ordered the motorbike rider to lie flat on the ground.

The two criminals took a mobile phone, jacket, trousers and money from the rider before taking off with the motorbike.

The rider reported the incident to the Narok town police station and the motorcycle was seized at Nairegie Enkare junction along the Narok Maai Mahiu highway.

One of the culprits managed to escape police arrest and Kaburu was left to face the criminal charges where he was convicted of the offence.

Chief Magistrate Nyaberi said the prosecution side, led by Senior Counsel James Kigo, had proved their case beyond reasonable doubt.

He reiterated that the culprit was well credibly identified by the complainants.

The court reminded the accused he had 14 days to appeal the case if he was not contented with the magistrate's judgement.
