Former President Daniel Moi's grandson Collins Kibet has been set free from jail on a Sh1 million bail.

A Nakuru Court suspended the earlier civil jail term for neglecting his children to allow Kibet time to address the issues with his partner.

Nakuru Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion said the decision was in the best interest of the children of the two parties involved in the case.

The hearing of the case is scheduled for October 9, 2024.

Kibelion however warned that his release is subject to show cause why he should not be jailed once he appears in court on October 9.

"This court order made on 19th of September 2024 committing the judgment to the civilian is hereby reviewed and verified, subject to your availability on the 9th of October," the magistrate ordered.

Kibet had been jailed in Nakuru GK prisons for 7 days for disobeying court orders in a case where he was accused of child neglect.

Lawyers Andrew Muge and George Sakimpa of Muge Law Advocates, successfully petitioned the court to review the jail sentence imposed on him.

Kibet was arrested on September 18 at Ongata Rongai following a warrant of arrest issued against him.

The child neglect case began in 2021 when his estranged wife Gladys Jeruto Tagi moved to court accusing him of failing to provide for his children.

Kibet is said to have told the court that he was broke and was unable to provide for his children.
