Over 2,000 trees have been planted in Chepalungu forest, Bomet County.

The trees were planted during the forest’s adoption launch on October 8.

The Chepalungu Forest Rehabilitation Initiative is part of the Roots to Canopy Project aimed at rehabilitating 202.4 hectares of the forest by progressively planting 200,000 trees.

Various corporate organizations, institutions, personalities, locals and general members of the public participated in the ambitious project aimed at restoring the forest’s lost glory due to human action and inaction as well as the effects of climate change.

They included China-based Tibet Guangdong Contanese Tea Company, SMACHS Foundation, local administration alongside public and private primary and secondary schools as well as locals. Zhang Jiajie led a team from Tibet Guangdong Contanese Tea Company while first daughter Charlene Ruto led the SMARCHS Foundation where she is the patron at the event.

The newly appointed Chief Conservator of Forests, Alex Lemarkoko, as well as teachers and learners from Chesambai Primary, Kibibo Primary, Kapsosurwa Primary, Kapchumwa Primary, and Kapchumbe Secondary schools with close to 2,000 students.

Jiadie, on behalf of the Aid for Tibet Cantonese Tea Program and BORHEN SUPPLY CHAIN, donated 2,000 school bags to local students to support their education and growth.

He said the generous donation demonstrates their support for the local community and concern for the next generation.

Jiajie had an in-depth and friendly exchange with all parties on the topics of China-Africa economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges.

He emphasized the importance of China-Africa cooperation, especially in the fields of agriculture, education and environmental protection.

Jiajie said China-Africa cooperation can not only promote the economic development of both sides but also enhance mutual cultural understanding and friendship.

On the Chepalungu forest, Jiadjie expressed his hope and commitment for the future.

“It’s important to protect the forest not only for this generation’s best interests but the future too,” Jiadjie said.

Jiadie also presented his vision for the forest’s restoration and sustainable development.

“I hope that this forest can be protected through cooperation and joint efforts,” Jiadie said.

Through this demonstration of social responsibility, Jiajie and his team made a positive contribution to China-Africa friendship and cooperation not only on the economic, trade and cultural levels but also on the social welfare level.
