Traffic was disrupted for hours on Monday at Ololulunga junction, along the Narok-Bomet Highway, after an irate mob blocked the road to protest an incident where a 55-year-old watchman was killed and another man was seriously injured.

The youth burned tyres in the middle of the road to express their disappointment over the reported surging insecurity along the highway and blamed the police for not arresting the suspects perpetrating the acts of lawlessness in the area.

Security officers were forced to fire tear gas to disperse the protesters and unblock the road to allow smooth traffic flow.

Narok inter-faith Chairman Bishop Peter Nakola said the deceased was one of the worshipers at his church and called on the police to carry out thorough investigations on the matter to bring the murderers to book.

“The deceased was a believer who worshipped at my church. He was an honest man who hails from Congo. I wonder why someone would kill such an innocent man,” he said.

Narok county police commander Riko Ngare confirmed the incident, saying the body of the Congolese national had a deep cut on the back of the head and was lying beside the road in Ololulunga market.

Beside the deceased was a youth who was left unconscious after he had been reportedly seriously assaulted.

He was rushed to Ololulunga Subcounty Hospital before being referred to Narok County Referral Hospital for further treatment.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Narok County Referral Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Last month, residents of Narok town had raised an alarm over increased incidents of insecurity in the town and its surroundings, as barely a week would end without a murder case being reported.

Police announced they had increased patrols within the town and they had arrested the main suspects involved in the reported murder incident.
