Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu has warned men who have impregnated schoolgirls, saying they will be dealt with accordingly.
He said he is working closely with the county commissioner’s office to identify girls who fall pregnant during the long holiday to follow up and arrest the culprits.
Ntutu said many innocent girls are impregnated during holidays, compromising their studies and future careers.
“Our girls should be given ample time to complete their studies and become professionals in future,” he said.
Ntutu spoke at Nkineji in Naroosura ward, Narok South Subcounty during a development tour.
The county chief also warned parents against subjecting their children to retrogressive cultural practices such as female genital mutilation and early marriages.
“Parents should be at the forefront to help their children complete school by ensuring they guide and counsel them during this long holiday,” he said.
The governor said the county has released Sh400 million as bursary for vulnerable children.
“I do not see why any child should miss school because we have put in all the necessary support for children to be in school. We will hold parents accountable for children who will not go back to school in January,” Ntutu said.
This year, eight girls from Narok county, sat for exams
while in hospital after delivering during exams.
