A section of MCAs and professionals in Trans Nzoia county have defended Governor George Natembeya over his political stance and push for ‘Tawe’ political movement.

Professionals led by Jared Kimani, Paul Waswa and Jack Tarus said they were proud of Natembeya’s leadership and boldness in tackling issues affecting residents and Kenyans in general.

“Kenya needs leaders like Natembeya who will say it as it is. For those who know his leadership, the governor always talks about existing issues that are real and factual. We fully associate ourselves with him,” Tarus said.

He said the governor is not a tribalist and although he talks about leadership in Western, his interest is clearly focused on equality among all Kenyans.

Waswa said they fully support the ‘Tawe’ movement, which is aimed at liberating the Luhya community and other Kenyans who have been sidelined and denied benefits from the national cake.

“Natembeya practices what he says. By telling off the Luhya leaders, he is not in any way disrespecting them but laying bare the truth because its true our current leaders in government have failed us,” he said.

Sitatunga MCA Simon Murei said ward representatives had not discussed any plans to impeach Governor Natembeya.

“We have not discussed such an issue and we urge the governor to focus on serving the people of Trans Nzoia and other Kenyans,” he said.

Matisi MCA Obed Mwale urged the governor to remain focused on serving the people of Trans Nzoia. He said he was not aware of any plans to impeach the governor.

Natembeya has dared his political opponents to bring on an impeachment motion against him because of the stance he has taken concerning Luhya politics and abductions.

The county chief said removing him from office will not be a walk in the park because people of Trans Nzoia and a majority of Kenyans believe in what he stands for.

Natembeya claimed those said to be scheming his removal are the same people behind the recent abduction of youths who are fighting for their freedom and rights.

“Those talking of impeaching Natembeya are the same people who were abducting youth because they are intolerant to alternative views, yet the law clearly provides for freedom of expression,” he said.

Natembeya spoke in his office in Kitale on Wednesday. There have been talks of an impeachment motion against Natembeya at the Trans Nzoia county assembly after the governor engaged in a political confrontation with some Kenya Kwanza leaders during the burial of the mother of Speaker Moses Wetang’ula in Bungoma a week ago.

Natembeya in the presence of President William Ruto condemned abduction of youths and accused some political leaders from the Luhya community of failing the community.

His sentiments sparked a bitter reaction from the Kenya Kwanza leaders, including Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Wetang’ula and Musalia Mudavadi.

Natembeya said he exercised his freedom of expression and asked why anyone would look for non-existent reasons to impeach him.

“Those who think of impeachment are dictators because they believe my political star is rising and I am a threat to them,” he said.
