A 14-year-old girl in Mumias who scored 412 marks in last year’s KCPE examination has been selected to join a county school.

Whitney Nyachoti sat the exam at Lubinu Primary School and was expecting to join a national school.

Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi announced that candidates who scored 400 marks and above would join national schools.

Nyachoti has received an admission letter from Sacred Heart Girls School, Mukumu.

“A fellow student I beat in the KCPE examination has been selected to join a national school. I don’t understand what criteria was applied,” she said told the Star at her Lubinu home yesterday.

Her mother Emmy Omuhaka said her daughter has been demoralised since she received the admission letter.

“The system used to select form ones will demoralise hardworking student in future examinations,” she said.

Noela Goreti, 14, scored 406 marks but has been selected to join Bishop Sulmeti Girls Secondary, a county school.
