The long-standing political differences between former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga and the newly elected MP Jack Wamboka have been resolved.
The two decided to end their rivalry and work together after Wamboka of DAP-K beat Mabonga in the Bumula parliamentary race hands down.
Speaking at Bumula NG-CDF offices on Thursday during the handing over of the office to the MP-elect, Mwambu conceded defeat and lauded his long political rival saying that he won’t fight him but instead he will support him and serve the people of Bumula.
“I have had a tough time with my brother Jack Wamboka but today I have decided that we bury the hatchet and work as Bumula sons. In the recent campaigns we almost fought,” Mwambu stated.
Mwambu added that power is with the people because they are the ones who elect the leaders they want.
“I have served in the position of an MP for the past five years. My Bumula people have decided that they change leadership and try you. I can’t fail to hand you over,” he noted.
Mwambu revealed that a section of people approached him and asked him to petition the case in court to challenge Wamboka’s win but Mwambu argued that it was Wamboka’s time to lead.
“I know that Wamboka won with a small margin but I cannot be stupid to start disturbing him, let him serve and deliver without interference,” Mwambu said.
Mwambu said that he will still be in the constituency, and asked the MP-elect to fell free to seek his advice.
“Jack, you are now my MP but I am still your elder brother. If there is anything that you want from me be free to call and ask,” he said.
On his part, Wamboka said that the elections was now over, affirming that he would work with Mwambu to take Bumula to the next level.
Mwambu said that he would run for the senatorial position in Bungoma in case Moses Wetang'ula was elected Speaker.
“If William Ruto will be declared the winner of the August elections our brother Moses Wetang’ula will become the Speaker of the National Assembly and I will replace him,” Mwambu said.
“Mwambu is still our son here in Bumula, let’s support his ambition to become the senator of Bungoma,” Wamboka said.
