Kakamega Woman Rep Essy Muhanda and ODM deputy party leader who is eyeing to unseat Prime Cabinet Secretary as the Luhya Kingpin.

Some leaders in Western region now want to dethrone Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as Luhya spokesman and replace him with ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya.

Mudavadi has been on the receiving end of criticism for abandoning his community and supporting Kenya Kwanza of President William Ruto.

The plot to oust him was revealed on Friday when Eugene Wamalwa, Oparanya,  Saboti MP Caleb Hamisi and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi led the saba saba protests in Luanda.

They said it's time to remove Mudavadi as Luhya spokesman after failing to champion the rights of Mulembe Nation.

In a joint statement, they said Mudavadi is in bed with the Kenya Kwanza government which has imposed punitive taxes on Kenyans hence forgetting his mandate as a spokesman.

Walalwa said it was a big betrayal for Mudavadi to rally some MPs from Mulembe to vote yes on the Finance bill forgetting the negative impact on Kenyans.

“Mudavadi as Luhya spokesman has failed the Mulembe Nation and we should replace him,” Wamalwa said.

“We are organising a big rally where we shall declare the removal of Mudavadi as Luhya spokesman and endorse Oparanya as our new Luhya spokesman,” he added.

He said it’s unfortunate leaders who voters trusted and gave them the job of representing their interests chase their own benefits.

Wamalwa’s sentiments were echoed by  Osotsi, Luanda MP Dick Maungu, Hamisi and businessman Alex Kidake who is eyeing governorship in 2027.

Mudavadi is facing rebellion for the second time as the Luhya kingpin after he was dethroned in December 31, 2016.

The elders unanimously handed over the reigns to Oparanya as the Luhya spokesperson in a resolution that was signed by Chairman Patrick Wangamati, the Secretariat and patron Francis Atwoli.

However in 2017, Mudavadi was reinstated.

Currently Oparanya is determined to give a second coup to replace Mudavadi as the Luhya political kingpin and call shots in Western political arena.

“We shall soon have an event to install our senior brother as Mulembe Nation spokesperson so that we can bring our people together,” Wamalwa said.

He believes Mudavadi has failed to unite the region.

His sentiments were echoed by Osotsi, and Hamisi who said Oparanya has capacity to steer the Western region’s agenda in national politics.

Apart from planning to endorse Oparanya as Luhya political kingpin, Wamalwa asked Vihiga people to shift their loyalty to Osotsi.

Oparanya said Osotsi as a super senator is the one who should call political shots in Vihiga county politics.
