DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa has affirmed that the high cost of living will be the top agenda during the bipartisan talks between the Kenya Kwanza and the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

Speaking in Bungoma on Saturday when he met Democratic Action Party of Kenya grassroots leaders, the former Defence CS said the Azimio team is prepared to face their counterparts as the talks resume at Bomas of Kenya on Monday.

“We are ready and prepared to face our Kenya Kwanza counterparts in discussing the issues pressing Kenyans today, we will start by addressing the high cost of living,” Wamalwa said.

Wamalwa also said that the issue of restructuring the IEBC will also form part of the agenda to curb alleged rigging during the general elections.

The former CS also censured President William Ruto over the closure of the sugar factories in Kenya for six months alleging that the move aims to benefit his cronies.

“The shutting down of sugar factories in the country was a clear plan to award his supporters (Ruto) who lost in the general elections tenders to import sugar so that they earn billions within the period the factories will be closed,” Wamalwa said.

Wamalwa said that recently, he held a meeting with Nzoia sugar farmers at the Bukembe area in Bungoma county and the farmers disclosed that they have not been paid for more than 16 months.

He called on the DAP-K  elected leaders and supporters to continue supporting the Azimio la Umoja coalition to put the government in check.

“Ruto together with his people are thinking and planning on how to make Kenya a one-party state therefore we need our DAP-K members to love and support our party so that we can keep being a multiparty nation,” he said.

DAP-K deputy leader Wafula Wamunyinyi said that he will help support and grow the party as they prepare for the 2027 elections.

Also present was DAP-K secretary general Eseli Simiyu who said that in 2027 they won’t allow the IEBC to oversee the election as currently constituted.
