Activities were paralysed along the Kanduyi-Malaba Highway for some hours after the angry residents stormed Kimaeti police station to eject the police officers whom they alleged were sleeping on the job.
The move comes after a night security personnel was brutally murdered by suspected criminals who wanted to rob shops in the Kimaeti market.
The deceased was identified as Changalwa Nabiswa.
Robin Wanyonyi, a resident, blamed the police officers for focusing on arresting busaa brewers in the area instead of ensuring security for the residents.
The residents claimed that the fatal attack on Nabiswa happened 50 metres from Kimaeti police station.
Wanyonyi noted that the residents took the initiative of ejecting the officers for failing to hear the cries of the locals.
“We have experienced many insecurity incidents here but the police officers who were deployed here have failed to address our pleas and ignored us. That is why we have taken the law in our hands to chase these officers,” he said.
He affirmed that they will not accept the officers back.
" We want the relevant agencies or person to deploy new officers who will hear our pleas, we don’t want people who concentrate on the running battle with chang’aa and busaa brewers."
Elphas Okwachu, a boda boda rider, condemned the bizarre incident demanding speedy investigations.
“The security guard who was butchered is an innocent guy, he was only on his hustle so that he can provide for the family, we are annoyed as residents of the security team at this market,” he said.
The body of the deceased was taken to Bungoma County Referral mortuary for preservation as the DCI launched a probe into the incident.
Area MP Jack Wamboka condemned the incident calling for a speedy investigation into the murder incident.
