State to beef up security in Vihiga to tame runaway crime

Vihiga Subcounty Deputy County Commissioner Florence Sitawa implored police to beef up security in the area by mounting regular night patrols.             

Sitawa, who spoke during a public forum at Inyanza area in Maragoli South ward said there were reported incidents of muggings and burglaries which take place at night.

She sounded a warning to criminals orchestrating the felonies saying the long arm of the law would soon catch up with them.            

The DCC said the state of insecurity is brought about by idleness among the youth, who shy from initiating self-employment activities.

She further said the problem was compounded by rampant sale and consumption of illicit brews.             

Sitawa called on parents and guardians to provide a conducive environment for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations candidates to revise while at home.             

The administrator said the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) requires the parents to assist the learners in responding to assignments.

He said the victims are abused by adults and in some instances the culprits are close relatives.

The police boss appealed to the residents to uphold the societal moral code to avoid abusing the underage girls, hence dimming their future prospects in life.
