Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential aspirant Sam Nyamweya has released a 10-year Strategic Plan ahead of the federation polls on December 7.
The plan, Nyamweya said, aims at making Kenya a dominant force in continental football.
Speaking on the eve of the FKF Presidential debate at the Catholic University of East Africa — organised by Radio Africa — Nyamweya said:
“Some of you know that I have been president and secretary general before opting out in 2016. But looking around what is happening in football, I have decided to come back and revive the game.”
Nyamweya was the federation president between 2011 and 2016.
“My theme of returning is reviving, transforming and uniting Kenyan football from 2025 to 2035. We will create strong national and county leagues and return them to an independent contractor,” Nyamweya said.
Having led Harambee Stars to a high of 68 in the world, Nyamweya said he and his team, if elected, will strive to ensure a similar rise in fortunes.
Kenya is ranked 106 in the world as at October 24.
“My team and I will work round the clock to ensure that we give Kenyans the best experience during Afcon 2027. Running this tournament is not an easy thing. We will have partnerships with other sports organisations, especially Caf and Fifa.”
And in the wake of match-fixing scandals, the experienced administrator will seek Parliament’s help in criminalising the vice through legislation. In addition:
“Clubs will get annual grants to help them run their operations. They have been suffering. This (issuance of grants) is one way of ensuring that these (match manipulation) are avoided."
“I will also decentralise the leagues to make them more competitive. Over the years, we have seen Nairobi-based clubs dominate the Kenyan Premier League. I think that is not right,” he added.
A total of nine candidates have been cleared to contest for the FKF presidency.
Others are Tom Alila, Doris Petra, Sam Ocholla, Sammy Owino, Chris Amimo, Hussein Mohamed, Cleophas Shimanyula and Barry Otieno.
