A memorial service for the late David Kamau Waweru was held on Tuesday at Kangemi High School grounds, Nairobi.
The late was the father to the President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Richard Ngatia.
In attendance was speaker of NA Justin Muturi and| Senate Ken Lusaka, ODM party leader Raila Odinga among other politicians.
Mourners have described the late as a family man with great leadership.
In his message of condolence, President Uhuru Kenyatta described Mzee Waweru as a respected elder whose wise counsel and leadership will be missed by the Kangemi ward community.
"The people of Gichagi have lost a robust and dependable leader and elder whose wise counsel promoted harmony in the community," Uhuru said.
Mzee Wakamau was an accountant and a laboratory technologist.
He joined the public service in the 1960's starting in the tax department of the defunct East African Community.
Waweru later served as a researcher at the East African Industrial Research and Development Institute which is currently known as the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI).
He joined the University of Nairobi in 1977 where he served as a Chief Technologist until his retirement in 1997.
