Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Thursday lead in the commissioning of renovation of the Kenya Medical Research Institute laboratories.
Kagwe was accompanied by charge d’affairs US Embassy Eric Kneedler among other Ministry of Health officials.
Speaking during the event, Kemri Board of Directors Chairman Daniel Mbinda said the upgrade of the facilities has seen the construction of a sample management and Receiving Facility building, two-storey office connector building as well as other major buildings.
"It is worth noting that some of these facilities that were commissioned earlier came in handy during the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in March last year," Mbinda said.
The facilities commissioned on Thursday include renovated laboratories CORE-A and B at the Centre for Biotechnology, Research and Development (CBRD), the centre Viral Research (CVR), the Centre for Traditional Medicine and Drug research (CTMDR) and the Centre Microbiology Research (CMR).
