Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Saturday launched food support for vulnerable households in Nairobi.
First lady Rachel Ruto and Dorcas Gachagua, and his deputy Njoroge Muchiri had accompanied the governor in the launch.
Sakaja said they have a number of households to help especially now that the county is in a drought crisis.
"Together with the national government, we have mapped out 284,982 households that will receive support during this period. This will roll out throughout the 17 constituencies," he said.
The governor thanked President William Ruto for including Nairobi county in the programme where residents will be receiving relief food.
"I'm grateful to Ruto for heeding our calls to include Nairobi in the drought relief programme as the urban poor are often left out of such interventions," he said.
Several leaders including Nairobi woman representative Esther Passaris, Kamande Mwafrika, Amos Mwago, Mejja Donk and a number of MCAs also graced the event
