Inspector General nominee Japhet Koome appears for vetting at Administration and Internal Affairs Committee in Parliament on November 8.

Inspector General of Police nominee Japhet Koome on Tuesday appeared for vetting at the Administration and Internal Affairs Committee in Parliament.

Koome was a Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo.

He served as Nairobi police commander before moving to head Kiganjo.

Upon his successful vetting, he will take over from the former Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai.

Koome will be the fourth IG under the Constitution and the 12th police boss since independence.

After vetting, the committee shall have 28 days to either approve or reject the nominee according to the Public Appointments Act, 2011.

Kenyans were given a 10-day window to share their views on the new IG with the National Assembly before vetting.
