Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that Opposition leader Rail Odinga is after the destruction of property and businesses.

Speaking in Kisii on Friday, the DP said what was witnessed on Monday could not be considered as peaceful protests.

"This man (Raila) his work is to destroy properties and businesses. On Monday, no demonstration took place, only destruction of businesses and properties," he said.

Gachagua was addressing Kisii Governor Simba Arati who had urged Azimio leaders and supporters to hold peaceful protests next week.

He further claimed that there has never been a single protest that Raila has held over the past 50 years which was peaceful.

The DP noted that the government does not entertain nor support anyone who propels the destruction of property and businesses.

"The protests led by Raila resulted in the destruction of properties which are not owned by him," Gachagua added.

National bar owners association has said the industry was affected during the Azimio La Umoja protests that occurred in various parts of the country on Monday.

They revealed that the industry lost Sh2.7 billion on that day.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the county lost about Sh40 million due to the Azimio protests that occurred on Monday.

He said the county collected less than half of the daily revenue collection.

Gachagua also said that the protests cost the country nearly Sh2 billion.

“Due to lack of business in the Nairobi CBD, the country has lost almost Sh2 billion in terms of business and the money could have been circulating in the economy,” he stated.
