Opposition Leader Raila odinga with Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir on April 18, 2023.

The Opposition Leader Raila Odinga led the Azimio La Umoja brigade at an Iftar dinner held in Nairobi.

Raila urged the Muslim community to pray for peace for the neighbours and religious tolerance throughout the world, including Kenya.

"As a nation, we must resist attempts to divide us along religious lines. We must ensure that Kenyans can freely practice their faiths without fear or stigma," he said.

According to ODM, the Muslim fraternity at the Iftar rallied their support behind demands by the coalition that includes reducing the high cost of living, and fixing the ⁦IEBC⁩ to avoid electoral fraud in future.

However, on Tuesday Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said that the Opposition Chief had no respect for the Muslim Community as he carried out demos during the Holy month.

“Wasitumie maandamano mwezi wa ramadhan tafadhali. Walifanya Maandamano kwa huu mwezi wa amani. Wakisema wanangija ramadhan iishe, wangetuheshimu siku ya kwanza," he said

This is loosely translated to: He (Raila) should have not held demos during Ramadhan. They held their demos during this month of difference, a month of peace.  They did their maandamano until the 20 days of Ramadhan. He should have respected the Muslim community from the beginning.
