Traders at the famous Toi market in Nairobi’s Kibera area were on Sunday saddened after a fire razed down their stalls early in the morning.
Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed during the inferno said to have started around 2 am.
The real cause of the fire remains unclear.
The residents suspected that the fire could have started from a possible electrical fault.
Fire engines from the county government arrived at the scene in an effort to try to put out the fire that reduced the property to ashes.
Some of the residents were seen trying to salvage some of their items that were already burnt down.
Most of the properties that were able to be rescued were iron sheets and scrap metals.
This is not the first time the market is going down in flames. The market has become prone to frequent fires, despite the government promising an end to the infernos.
The lack of access roads has also been faulted for the slow response of fire services.
