Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has presided over the 40th and 9th graduation ceremonies of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and PAUSTI class respectively.
The ceremony which took place on Friday, oversaw a total of 4,299 graduands receiving their diplomas, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
He challenged the graduating class to take up research and innovation geared towards the creation of employment and alleviating poverty.
“I commended the graduates and faculty members for their tremendous effort to this end,” Gachagua said.
He said a university education is a great stimulus for any nation's growth on different scopes.
“Institutions of higher learning through education, research, and innovation, play a key role in sustainable development while contributing to research for solutions to contemporary issues,” Gachagua said.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu challenged universities to continuously reinvent themselves in order to provide the intellectual framework and meet the demands of the 21st century.
