Wildlife and Tourism CS Peninah Malonza on Friday led Kenyans in marking World Swahili Day.

The day began when the United Nations declared July 7 a Swahili Language Day in 2022.

Kenyans showcased different cultures associated with Swahili Day at Fort Jesus grounds.

Swahili speakers are spread out in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia among others.

Other leaders present included Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Shariff Nassir and PS Heritage and Culture Ummi Bashir among others.
