Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza with her son and daughter arriving at the Senate for the hearing of her impeachment hearings in Nairobi on November 7, 2023.

A family that prays together stays together, so they say.

Bishop Kawira Mwangaza's immediate family on Tuesday typified this biblical phrase.

In the company of her, daughter, son and husband Murega Baichu, Governor Mwangaza took a walk to the Senate for her impeachment trial.

Mwaganza was wearing an Ankara dress with a golden-like chain which had a symbol of the cross.

The Governor was also accompanied by her team of nine lawyers who are expected to shield her in the face of a spirited bid to eject her from office.

They included lawyers Elisha Ongoya, Elias Mutuma, Duncan Okubasu, Robert Mutembei, Bridah Kimathi and Batista Muirigi.

Others are Antony Mwenda, Collins Mwenda and their assistant Brainlee Maingi.

Mwangaza was ousted last month after 59 MCAs voted in favour of the impeachment motion.

The impeachment case against Kawira is being heard in the Senate plenary.

Mwangaza has since pleaded not guilty to seven charges against her.

Her charges include misappropriation and misuse of county resources, nepotism and related unethical practices.

The governor faces accusations of illegal appointments, contempt of court, illegally naming a public road after her husband and contempt of the assembly.

Mwangaza is also accused of bullying, vilifying and demeaning other leaders, making illegal appointments and usurping statutory powers.
