A record 1,415,315 candidates sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination this year, marking the end of the 8-4-4 primary school system after nearly four decades.
Releasing the results at Mitihani House on Thursday, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu said that the gender parity was almost bridged.
" In the 2023 KCPE Exam, gender parity shifted in favor of males at 51.30 per cent and females at 48.70 percent," he said
According to the data, out of the 1,406,557 million candidates, 685, 017 or 48.7 per cent were girls while 721, 544 (representing 51.30 per cent) were boys.
The CS also assured Form One placement for 1,406,557 candidates who sat 2023 KCPE in line with the government’s 100 per cent transition to secondary school.
He announced that candidates who missed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will have a chance to sit a special examination in January 2024, ensuring no one from the final 2023 cohort misses Form One admission.
