Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday joined Uasin Gishu residents for the Chepsaita Cross Country Run.
The DP said apart from tapping talents, the marathon also provided a perfect opportunity to raise awareness towards fighting illicit alcohol, doping, drugs and substance abuse.
"It was today truly exciting participating in the fun-filled event that saw the young, the old, the elites and upcoming athletes compete for various prizes during the inaugural race at the epicentre of Kenyan athletics," he said.
"The old were also not left behind as they raced to the finish line with determination confirming that, indeed, old is gold."
Present were the Patron of the Marathon Farouk Kibet, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the host Governor Jonathan Bii Koti Moja, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Ababu Namwamba, his Cooperatives Counterpart Simon Chelugui, World Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge.
Others were Governor Wesley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet), Stephen Sang (Nandi), Simon Kachapin (West Pokot), National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, National Assembly Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya among others and athletics enthusiasts
