It was an emotional Thursday morning at Embakasi Administration Police  Training College as families gathered to remember their loved ones.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki led a memorial service to honour 37  fallen heroes and heroines from the National Police and Kenya Prisons Services.

Tears could not be held back as loved ones remembered the ones who lost their lives while defending and protecting Kenya.

A monument of the 37 fallen police officers having their names was unveiled.

In attendance were Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, DCI boss Amin Mohamed, Correctional Services Principal Secretary Salome Muhia-Beacco, Principal Administrative Secretary, National Police Service Bernadette Lemedeket and Kenya Prisons Service Commissioner General John Warioba.

Also in attendance was Chairperson of, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Ann Makori, Vice Chairperson, of National Police Service Commission Alice Otwalla and Deputy Inspector General of Police, in charge of Kenya Police Douglas Kanja

The CS Interior and other security officers paid tribute to the sacrifices made by these individuals for the nation’s well-being.

Last year’s event took place on December 15 which was also graced by the Interior boss.

The event is inspired by the sacrifices the heroes and heroines made to the nation, aspiring to make a positive contribution.

Family members of the fallen police officers are allowed to attend the ceremony.
