The government has pledged full support to the family of the late Lamu County Commissioner Louis Rono as they mourn his death.

Rono died on Thursday, March 21, after a short illness having served as a National Government Administrative Officer for 27 years.

On Monday, Kindiki visited his home in Buttik, Bureti Constituency, Kericho County, to condole with the family.

The CS said the death has robbed the country of a dedicated public servant.

“The Government appreciates the patriotic contribution of the late Louis Rono and will support his family during this painful moment, in appreciation of his selfless service to the Nation,” he said.

Kindiki said Rono rose to become one of the most critical cogs in the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOS) structure, and his demise is a devastating loss that the security sector will take long to reconcile with.

Rono was among 12 deputy county commissioners who were on March 7, 2023, promoted to county commissioners by Kindiki.

The National Government Administrative Officers said in a statement the promotion was a testament to his exemplary service and commitment.

Kinidiki said he decided to elevate the fallen officer to a county commissioner after owing to his exemplary track record.

“We have lost one of us, an officer and friend, who had dedicated himself to safeguarding the country’s security. I personally mourn my brother Rono because I have worked closely with him,” Kindiki said.

“Among 47 county commissioners that we have, Rono is among those I have worked with more than others. I’m the one who looked for him when he was deputy county commissioner and promoted him after hearing positive things about him,” the CS added.

Rono is survived by a wife and several children.

Kindiki said the government will in Rono's honour improve the learning facilities and construct a dining hall and library for Buttik Primary and Secondary Schools.

He said the government will also support community projects that Rono had invested his time and resources in.

KIndiki made the remarks on his way from condoling with the late county commissioner's family and interacting with pupils and students of the two schools and MariaJoy Academy.

"I encouraged them to be disciplined, diligent and dedicated in their studies, and to respect their parents and teachers.
