A sombre mood engulfed the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi on Monday morning at the late Journalist Rita Tinina’s requiem mass was held.

The mass marked the beginning of Tinina’s final journey.

The service which started at 10 am brought together Tinina’s family, friends and the media fraternity.

Tinina’s remains were in a brown casket covered with a white lace net and had a wreath of red and white flowers placed on top.

Close friends and immediate family members were dressed in black for the ladies and a white scarf.

Tinina’s daughter,  Mia Malaikah was in a white dress and sat close to her aunties.

Media personalities led by  Kenya Editors Guild president Zubeida Kananu also attended the mass.

The mass started a few minutes past 10 am.

 Tinina will be buried on Wednesday, March 27 in Narok at the family's home, Noosupeni Farm Olokirikirai.

Tinina was the beloved daughter of the late Dominic and the late Mary Yiapan. 

She was a beloved sister of Helen, Irene, Justine, Jedidah, Keen and Claudia.

She was also deeply cherished as a sister-in-law of Timothy, Roshen, Belmont, Agnes and Macharia.
