Many households in Nairobi were affected by flooding which occurred as a result of heavy downpour Sunday.
Like many other areas in Nairobi, Kangemi was equally hard hit.
A site visit by the Star on Tuesday revealed the aftermath of the heavy rains.
Some houses were on Tuesday still occupied by stagnant water.
The effects of the heavy rains were so lethal that furniture, utensils and even clothes were soaked in water in many of the houses seen by the Star,
Several men were seen clearing water from rental houses in an attempt to salvage some of their possessions.
Josephine Imboso told the Star she lost her household items to the flooding.
"I had left the house during the day. My child was at home when the rains started at around 10:30 pm Sunday," she said.
Imboso said she arrived back home to a scene of people trying to access her house to save her children who were still trapped inside.
"I came and tried to save my children. The young boys who were here helped me," she added.
As a mother of four and charcoal seller, Imboso said her source of livelihood was destroyed by the rains.
"Everything is gone. All I want is my children's birth certificates and more charcoal to continue with the business so that I can support my family," Imboso added.
At least 10 people were killed in separate places following heavy rains that were experienced in Nairobi on Sunday night and Monday morning.
The toll is expected to rise as more families have reported their friends and kin are still missing following the flooding that was reported.
Among those missing is police constable David Chesire of Kamkunji police station who was swept by water as he saved a trapped family in the area.
