President William Ruto has commissioned the installation of seven solar mini-grids under the Kenya Electricity Modernisation Project.
The commissioning took place at the Mageta Island Solar Grid in Mageta, Bondo Constituency, Siaya County.
The grid will power 1,400 households, support fish trading by powering cold rooms and improve public service delivery in hospitals and schools.
Mageta Island Solar Grid is also expected to enhance access to clean and reliable power supply.
Ruto noted that this will reduce power costs for businesses and supply electricity to more than 4,000 households in Siaya County.
The President also officially commissioned the Usonga Siriwo Rice Mill that will facilitate increased food production in Siaya and Busia Counties.
Ruto is on the third day of the four-day development tour in Nyanza region.
