President William Ruto on Thursday launched the Nairobi River Regeneration Project in Korogocho, Nairobi under the Climate WorX Mtaani initiative.
During the launch, Ruto noted that a clean and revitalised Nairobi River means improved public health, enhanced local business opportunities and a safer environment for the residents.
Ruto stated that the project will focus on restoring the river's natural beauty, eliminating pollution and creating green spaces that uplift surrounding communities.
The President said the initiative is a bold step towards a sustainable future, ensuring that both present and future generations benefit from a cleaner, greener Nairobi.
"Climate change is an existential threat facing humanity today. We must confront it head-on. That is why polluters of the environment must be held to account," Ruto said.
Climate WorX will provide more than 200,000 jobs for the youth, with 20,000 youth opportunities in Nairobi alone.
The successor programme to Kazi Mtaani will focus on climate change adaptation including the rehabilitation of the 45 kilometres covered by the Nairobi River.
