Public Health and Professional Standards PS Mary Muthoni has urged leaders to spearhead registration of Kenyans with Social Health Authority.
She called for strong collaboration among national government, county governments, the church, and community partners to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
“During my visit to Murang’a County, I oversaw the training of Community Health Promoters (CHPs), who are vital in improving health outcomes,” she said.
Muthoni noted that using the Electronic Community Health Information System (E-CHIS), CHPs registered 151,000 households and conducted vital screenings
She noted that some 174,000 residents were screened for diabetes, 141,000 (hypertension) and 19,600 assessed for various illnesses.
“I emphasised on the need to take lead in the registration of SHA. I took time to visit a health facility and inspected on the primary health care networks and colleration with Afya KE,” she said.
The Ministry of Health has said 18, 243, 251 Kenyans have registered under the new SHA scheme.
The ministry said that 4.6 million Kenyans transitioned from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to SHA and need to update their profiles.
In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said weekend registrations are lower due to reliance on health service visits for registration.
The ministry further said the Health Information Exchange had been fully deployed as of December 2024.
