More than 4,000 Muslim households in Kitui county received food donations from Kitui Senator Enock Kiio Wambua on Sunday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr.

He donated maize flour, rice, jerrycans of handwashing soap, face masks and other items.

Wambua urged the Muslim community to continue practising measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus. He urged Muslims to stay united and preach love as the country battles the pandemic

“Keep the nation in your prayers. Only prayers can save us from this pandemic,” he urged when he spoke at Mwingi Mosque.

He proceeded to Kitui and Mutomo towns to donate foodstuffs, saying Idd is a time to share, reflect, make amends and forgive.

Wambua donated food to 100 children at the Mulango Children's Home.

Recipients expressed gratitude, saying they are hardly remembered, especially by political leaders.

Khalid Bin Sunkar said Islam has been sidelined and this was the first time they had received food donations from a top politician.

“We hardly see Kitui politicians sharing or celebrating with us but we are happy that the senator remembered us today,” Bin Sunkar said.
