More than 20 Kakamega MCAs allied to ANC party have faulted Friday's meeting in Kajiado by some leaders from Western, terming it illegal and a betrayal of Luhyas.
The meeting was hosted by Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli at his Kajiado home.
While addressing the press in Kakamega on Tuesday, assembly minority leader David Ndakwa claimed the leaders were coerced to attend the meeting by people who want to see Luhyas divided.
“Some people have misinterpreted our previous political kindness for weakness. We have helped them achieve their political goals using our support but these same fellows are busy coercing our sons and daughters to play into their dark evil plans to see us divided so that they can thrive in their political kill,” Ndakwa, who spoke on behalf of other MCAs, said.
He said some leaders have succumbed to political terror and intimidation by Luhya adversaries and agreed to participate in illegal gatherings far from home, to serve the interests of their masters.
“We therefore say no to these levels of deceit and conmanship. Never again shall we allow individuals with ill intentions to assemble in foreign locations so that they can organise us. We cannot continue to be rubber stamps to other people’s political interests,” Ndakwa said.
The MCAs reiterated that no one else should speak or negotiate for the Luhyas other than ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and embattled Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula, "because they are the undisputed Luhya leaders and spokespersons".
The ward reps also backed Wetang'ula, saying, “We solidly stand with Wetang’ula at this time when dark forces attempted to stage a premature coup to remove him as the Ford Kenya party leader. We are alive to the fact that an enemy of Ford-K is an enemy of ANC.”
