Investing in cooperatives would create more job opportunities for the youth of Vihiga, deputy governor Patrick Saisi has said.
It is one of the ways of ending poverty among youths, Saisi said.
Cooperatives would enable the county have food security that has remained a major challenge to residents of Vihiga.
Saisi said currently the county had only six cooperatives but those are not enough.
The deputy governor spoke to the Star via phone on Friday.
“The white collar jobs sphere is currently shrinking with huge numbers of graduating youths from universities, middle level colleges and other training institutions increasing day by day and competing for the same jobs,” Saisi said.
The government can’t hire all of them. "We urge them ot become innovative and let us support them," Saisi added.
Saisi called on politicians to support Governor Wiber Ottichillo to achieve his goals before 2022.
"Governor Ottichillo has great dreams for this county but alone without our support, we as the stakeholders of this county, he can’t manage," Saisi said.
