The Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers has urged Education  CS George Magoha to tell Kenyans the exact date schools will be reopened.

Union secretary general James Torome said on Monday the way the CS is giving information is confusing to students, teachers and parents.

Speaking to journalists in Narok town, he said, “I urged him to call for a roundtable meeting with all the stakeholders to chart the way forward on a return-to-school formula.”

Torome said the government should provide funds to ensure learning institutions are prepared for the reopening.

“As a key stakeholder, we want to see things rolling by providing masks, sanitiser and washing facilities to these institutions,” he said.

Torome further urged associations and Saccos to pay teachers their dues once they retire from the public service.

The unionist said some associations have been taking teachers round in circles, yet they have contributed money to these institutions.

“Immediately teachers retire, they should be given their benefits,” Torome said.
