President Uhuru Kenyatta has hit back at the Building Bridges Initiative critics saying they should show leadership when they read the report rather than creating division.
Uhuru said he will not talk about the contents of the report adding that he does not want people to accuse him of influencing its outcome.
"We are not looking for the things we disagree about. Let us bring that consensus and move forward. I want to plead with my political colleagues that this is not the time to create division. This is the time for each and every person to show leadership," he said.
The President who spoke on Wednesday as he received the report alongside ODM leader Raila Odinga at the Kisii State lodge, said some countries have been fighting for political positions and Kenya is not supposed to go that way.
"This is the time to bring Kenya together. I am receiving this report for the first time. That is why we are quiet about it because we entrusted you with it," he said.
"Let us not squander this over the political petty differences. We can rise higher. Tame ambition for the greater good."
Uhuru said Kenyans should read the report carefully before making any judgment.
"We want this to be a national dialogue. A national dialogue is not conducted through insults. Let us talk to each other to find a way forward," he said.
"It is about your life, the life of your children. Let us not politicize life. Politics will come and go but Kenya is here to stay."
Uhuru urged Kenyans to read the BBI report as individual citizens and not with political hats calling on citizens to read and make their contribution with a view of making it even better.
"Let us read it as individual citizens and not with political hats. This is not a document against any individual or community. Read and make your contribution with a view of making it even better," he said.
"Today we receive that report but we will get a chance on Monday at the Bomas to be taken through line by line."
He also requested that between now and Monday the BBI team should ensure the document is understandable.
"If you have a simple version put it in all or dailies so that they can see this version," Uhuru said.
The President said Kenyans now have a moment in history where they can come together and rectify the country.
"Let us not lose this opportunity. This is not a document against any individual or community," Uhuru said.
