In Summary

  • • Karua claimed that Baringo MCAs who did not pass the BBI amendment bill have been asked to write statements with the DCI.
  • • Karua who is part of a lobby group - Linda Katiba Movement - further accused the President of revisiting the Judiciary after it annulled his presidential win in 2017.

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has continued her onslaught against the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Karua said the BBI project has been illegitimate and unconstitutional from the word go.

"We have seen MCAs get bribed with car grants and being intimidated. MCAs who voted NO are now under investigation. Contempt of the rule of law has been the Jubilee government signature," she said.

Karua claimed that Baringo MCAs who did not pass the BBI amendment bill have been asked to write statements with the DCI.

Karua who is part of a lobby group - Linda Katiba Movement - further accused the President of revisiting the Judiciary after it annulled his presidential win in 2017.

"Now the BBI project is revisiting the 2010 Constitution which the President has always considered as an inconvenience," she said.

"He wants to exercise unlimited power. This is a project to overthrow the Constitution."

Karua said the crisis at the top arises mainly since incumbents don’t want to hand over power.

"This happened in the US. We must stop it here in Kenya. The handshake has revealed itself to be an agreement between two people on how to share the spoils of power," she said.

A month ago, the Martha Karua-led lobby unveiled a website in which Kenyans could sign up to oppose the constitutional amendment drive.
