History has been made this morning in the East Africa region, ODM party leader Raila has said.
Via social media on Friday, Raila congratulated Suluhu Samia on taking office as the first female President of Tanzania.
"Mama @IdaOdinga and I pray for your success in the task ahead of leading your people and enhancing ties between our nations," he said.
Suluhu was sworn-in as Tanzania's President following the death of John Magufuli.
At exactly 10:15 am on Friday, Suluhu took oath of office at State House Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Those in attendance included former President Jakaya Kikwete. Suluhu, 61, sets history as the first female Tanzania President.
Dressed in red and black, the new President of Tanzania inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Tanzania Defence Forces.
She will succeed President John Magufuli who died on Wednesday.
