A corruption complaint against Roseline Odhiambo Odede came up during her interview for the positions of commissioner at IEBC.

Odede was asked to comment on the allegations that she solicited bribes from Judicial officers while working for Judges and Magistarte vetting board.

A letter of complaint by one Oduor Kizito dated June 12, 2021, accused Odede of corruption and abuse of power.

In her response, Odede said she was distressed by the complaint which she said were untrue and unfounded.

She claimed the decisions made in the board were based on unanimous decision of a team of nine and not individual.

"I was at a time where my career was at a turning point and I was not going to compromised that for a few coins. I was well paid as a commissioner and I had no need to ask for extra coins from anyone," Odede said.

"I have told the panel that you can check my banking records for that time, check my M-pesa, check my asset inventory nothing changed for my life substantially. If I was taking bribes it would have been in the public domain."

She was the last candidate to be interviewed by the panel for the IEBC commissioner position.

Odede is among the candidates who were shortlisted for the interview by the Selection Panel for the Appointment of IEBC Commissioners.

The panel is seeking to recruit new four commissioners to fill the gaps left by four commissioners who resigned in April 2018.

The four were Roselyne Akombe, Paul Kurgat, Connie Maina, and Margaret Mwachanya after the 2017 General Elections.

Odede also said the 2007-08 post-election violence motivated her to apply for the position.

Odede said that she experienced the chaos that rocked the nation following the announcement of former President Mwai Kibaki as the president.

She said that it was a shock to her to see what happened.

“2007 PEV was a traumatic experience. It was a sad experience and a sad time for Kenya. And I just told myself that if I can help Kenya get an election like the one for 2002, if I can be part of the process that delivers an election that is run with integrity and credibility, and people accept the results, I will be a proud person. And that is why I am here today,” Odede said.
