Two die after car sprayed with bullets in Machakos

Two people have died on the spot while another one escaped unhurt after a private car they were travelling in was sprayed with bullets along Nairobi - Machakos Road at Kathome area in Machakos County.

Machakos County Commissioner John Ondego said the Honda Fit had three occupants when the incident occurred on Friday.

Ondego said they were attacked by their killers who trailed them from nearby Kyumbi shopping centre located along Nairobi - Mombasa highway.

He said one of the victims was a police officer based in Mwala sub-county.

He said the trio were seemingly in their killers radar who blocked their car on reaching the scene of crime.

"One of them is our officer based in Mwala and it seems they were being followed from behind because the gun men were following them from behind. We really don't know the reason behind the attack," Ondego said.

The administrator addressed the press at the scene shortly after the incident.

Ondego said the two who died on the spot included the car's driver and his passenger who sat at the core driver's sit.

"The driver and the core driver succumbed on the spot to 18 gunshot wounds while the survivor escaped unhurt," Ondego said.

The bodies were moved to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary while the wreckage was towed to Machakos police station.

Ondego said investigations have commenced but no suspect had been arrested by the time of going to press.
