For the 25 years former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire and his wife Jane Munda were married, they attended different churches.
While Bosire was a devout Catholic, his wife was a member of Christ Is The Answer Ministries. Bosire said attending different churches did not bother them.
At the time of their wedding, Munda was a Seventh-day Adventist. She joined Citam one year into their marriage.
Bosire said although their wedding was officiated by the Catholic Church, his wife did not join him at the church.
He said it took his wife a year to make up her mind on which church to join. She eventually chose Citam in Karen.
He said though he understood that in the African context, the wife subscribes fully to what the husband does, he allowed her to be a member of a different church because he thought differently.
He said he once accompanied his wife to a church service in Citam and he did not see any difference between the teachings of the two churches.
"I found no reason to [join her] in this church because I found the teachings to be the same. I remain a Catholic," he said.
Munda died on July 20 while undergoing treatment for lung cancer at Nairobi Hospital. She fought the disease for two years.
She was buried in Nyamwanga village, Nyamira county, on Monday.
Munda is survived by Bosire, six children and two grandchildren.
She worked at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
She was the daughter of the late Senior Chief M’Runguma and the Late Biliah Ntue M’Runguma of Chiakariga, Tharaka Nithi county.
Speaking during the funeral service, the ODM treasurer eulogised his wife as a wonderful woman who formed a crucial support base for his family and his political career.
He said his wife did not complain when he took family money and resources to invest in politics, adding that when he lost his seat in 2017, the wife urged him on.
She made it a peaceful home to return to and attend to their children effectively, meeting all their needs, he said.
Bosire said his wife endured the pain of cancer but was treated at Nairobi Hospital with the help of doctors from Harvard Medical School.
