Boarding schools have recorded 90 per cent Form One student admission.
The Education ministry said the the statistics had been recorded by the end of Thursday - day three of the admissions exercise.
Admissions for students who sat their KCPE 2020 exams started on Monday.
However, the data shows slow reporting in day schools, as some parents hope to secure places in other schools.
The ministry has asked students who are looking for admission in other schools to take up their places and start learning.
Stakeholders have also been asked to ensure all learners report to school to ensure the government’s 100 per cent transition target is realised.
The reporting trends in schools show students in Kirinyaga county leading at 85 per cent of reporting.
Meanwhile, the ministry is planning a mop-up exercise starting on Monday, even as it computes complete data for all schools.
“The main challenge so far has been requested for reversals – parents have sought a change of placement and when it is executed, they decide that the original school is better or get a third school that they prefer. Others change placement but their children insist on the school they were selected to,” the ministry said.
It added that there have been instances of parents objecting to change in placement of their children.
It said after the results of the selection were announced on June 15, there are parents who placed requests in various schools and were asked to wait.
"Others sent friends and relatives who placed requests in various schools."
The ministry said once schools upload the requests and are approved, parents disown the same.
"The Ministry has always considered each case on its own merit, and remedial action taken with the interest of the child coming first.”
Kenyans of goodwill have been lauded by the ministry for stepping up to support needy children and ensure they are admitted to secondary schools.
“We also note with appreciation schools that have received and admitted students even without fees or personal effects. A good example is the boy who walked 30km to St. Josephs Boys in Kitale.”
Meanwhile, the ministry has disbursed the first quarter capitation to public schools amounting to Sh14.85 billion for FDSE and Sh2.6 billion for FPE.
