Turkish man in Ruto's Uganda trip saga deported

A Turkish national in the drama surrounding the aborted trip by Deputy President William Ruto to Uganda was deported from Kenya after spending two nights in custody.

Police officials said Harun Aydin was deported Monday morning after the government made the decision after consultations with the Turkish authorities.

This aborted a plan to produce him in court Monday morning.

Aydin was bundled onto a Turkish airline at about 5 am and landed in Istanbul where he was picked by the local security officials for further grilling.

“He was deported to Turkey after consultations with the local officials who asked we send him there for further processing,” said an official aware of the move.

His lawyers had arrived at the Kahawa Law Courts for his arraignment when they were informed of the developments.

Lead lawyer Ahmedinasir Abdullahi had been complaining they had not seen Aydin for the two days he was in police custody.

“With my legal team at Kahawa Law Courts waiting to see whether the government and the Office of the Public Prosecutions have the guts to bring Harun Aydin to the court or will engage in the usual act of skullduggery that defines the modus operandi of my BELOVED JUBILEE government,” said Ahmedinasir in one of his tweets.

MP Oscar Sudi also told the media that the Turkish National was secretly deported this morning.

"No one was allowed to see him since he was arrested on Saturday morning. Not even his lawyer. The government did not have any reason to charge him, that is why they deported him," he said.

“We know him from Turkey. If he is a terrorist, so am I. They couldn’t bring him to court and they’ve deported him back to Turkey”.

Sudi challenged the president to tackle the deputy president directly and not through innocent people

“They cannot uphold the current constitution, yet they want a new one,” he said.
