United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed his concern over the fate of women and children in the unfolding chaos in Afghanistan.
Guterres said that on Tuesday through a post in his Twitter account that the victims of the current turmoil are looking to the international community for support.
“I am deeply concerned by accounts of human rights violations against the women and girls of Afghanistan who fear a return to the darkest days,” Guterres said.
Afghans have known generations of war and hardship. They deserve our full support. Now is the time for solidarity.
He had earlier urged all countries to be willing to receive Afghan refugees, and refrain from deportations, saying that Afghans have known generations of war and hardship, therefore, deserving full support.
On Monday, Guterres appealed to the UN-Security Council, and the international community to stand as one, and ensure that human rights are upheld, humanitarian aid continues, and that the country does not again become a platform for terrorism.
During the UNSC's emergency meeting that was held on Monday, the Council called for a cessation of hostilities and the establishment, “through inclusive negotiations”, of a new government in Afghanistan.
The Council’s members also appealed for an immediate end to the violence, and restoration of security and civil and constitutional order.
As the world is following events in Afghanistan with a heavy heart, I urge all countries to be willing to receive Afghan refugees & refrain from deportations.

The situation in Afghan escalated on Sunday following the takeover of the country’s capital Kabul by the Taliban militants.
This weakened the government, allowing the Taliban to enter the president’s palace, as President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
In a post through his Facebook, Ashraf said that his step was to prevent further shed of blood.
The situation in the middle east country started when the US withdrew its troops from the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.
