Kisumu water executive Salmon Orimba is the best performer countrywide in ensuring residents get clean water.
He won the 2021 County Gala Awards.
Orimba has been overseeing massive improvement and expansion of the network and infrastructure for clean drinking water in Kisumu county.
He thanked the organisers of the awards for acknowledging his work saying recognising efforts of public servants go a long way in improving service delivery.
“I am very delighted to be recognised for my efforts to ensure Kisumu residents access clean water,” Orimba said.
Kisumu county has for the last three years spent Sh813 million on water projects to expand provision of safe, clean and affordable supply to residents.
The yearly allocation for water projects is estimated at about Sh271 million.
The projects include drilling of boreholes, pipeline extensions and rehabilitation works.
Over 60 boreholes have been drilled in various subcounties in efforts to facilitate provision of safe and clean water to residents.
The boreholes are spread across the 35 wards in the county with emphasis given to areas that have been least covered.
For sustainability of water projects, the county is handing over the facilities to Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company (Kiwasco) to manage them.
Orimba promised to scale up efforts to provide clean and affordable water to the communities and the various institutions in the county.
The County Gala Awards is a business and marketing company that rates leaders' performance across the country and rewards efforts by counties in their quest to implement devolution.
The winners were arrived at after a report compiled from a survey conducted between January 1 and February 30, 2021.
The award ceremony was held at Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi on Friday.
The awards CEO Khalid Njirani said next year's awards will be recognising those who have greatly achieved under the five years of devolution.
