Mount Kenya region will negotiate with leaders who will care about their social and economic interests ahead of the 2022 General Election, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has said.

The governor said there was great need to continue putting people together to advance unity and welfare of the residents.

She spoke on Saturday during a meeting of Central Kenya leaders held in Laikipia county.

Other leaders present were Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi, Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, Muranga Woman Representative Sabina Chege and Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni.

Waiguru said the mountain region is open for talks with like-minded leaders and that nothing was already determined.

She said Mt Kenya leaders have resolved to lead in talks with stakeholders on behalf of residents.

"We are looking for tangible solutions to empower our people ,which will be presented on the negotiation table," Waiguru said.

On Friday after the Court of Appeal dismissed a BBI case, Waiguru said the judgment was a wake-up call for a new political way forward.

"Kenya will go on. BBI intended well but we must respect the constitutional authority of the courts and find other legitimate means to achieve Kenya’s unity and prosperity. And for some of us, it’s time for serious introspection on the political way forward," she said.
