Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang'o has decried what she terms underfunding of her office which has made her work difficult.

Nyakang'o said her office is unable to carry out its mandate effectively due to systematic budget constraints that have made delivery of key functions difficult.

Nyakango spoke on Tuesday during a Public Accounts Committee  roundtable with critical actors on fiscal, audit and oversight matters.

The conference was attended by DPP Noordin Haji, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak, Auditor General Nancy Gathungu and Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto amongst others.

As a gate keeper in the spending by various government institutions, Nyakang'o said she has no staff and resources to move around the country to ensure taxpayers' cash is used as budgeted for.

She noted that most anomalies by government institutions' spending are manufactured during the budgeting stage and with proper oversight, some of questionable budget lines would be arrested.

"As a gate keeper, the resource base allocated to my office is quite low. I do not have staff or financial resources to enable me move around," Nyakango said.

She added: " Lets equip the gatekeeper so that the Auditor General does not have do much."
