United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has embarked on a massive membership recruitment exercise in Eastern region.
Through UDA Youth Congress, Eastern Region Chapter, the party on Friday launched the mobilization, recruitment and registration process in Machakos, Makueni, Kitui and Embu Counties.
This comes a day after the chapter was launched in the region on Thursday.
The launch conducted at a local hotel in Machakos County was presided over by UDA National Youth Alliance officials led by its chairman Kariuki Ngunjiri on Thursday.
The youths said they will no longer accept to be politically misused during the forthcoming elections as it was the norm.
They will instead contest for various political positions in the region themselves.
“As UDA Youth Congress from the Eastern Region we have today converged here for an important purpose. We have launched the UDA Eastern Region Youth chapter as we move forward,” Ngunjiri said.
Ngunjiri flanked with several youth leaders from the Eastern region addressed the press during the launch.
“This journey has taken off. We us the youth are getting organized in UDA and hustler nation in solidarity. From here in Machakos, I publicly announce that the mobilization exercise starts to ensure we get as many youths as possible from the entire region to be part of youth congress,” he added.
Ngunjiri said as a congress they will conduct mobilization of residents to register for votes and more youths to sign up in UDA.
“This is because others have gotten used to us each, they exploit the youth every electioneering season. Some leaders are fond of inciting the youth against their political opponents, we won’t accept this any longer,” he said.
He said congress officials from the region declared their support towards Deputy President William Ruto.
“Youth congress Eastern Region officials have declared this time around they have seen a leader with a progressive development plan, he is the Deputy President William Ruto and from here there isn’t turning back," he said.
The youth leaders said they will get to the grassroots and mobilize votes for the party leader and all those who will contest for various political positions in the region.
MCA aspirant Moses Mutungi said it was time for young people to take over the country’s leadership.
Mutungi said he was contesting for Mua ward seat in Mavoko, Machakos County.
“It is time that we young people take over leadership of this nation. It is high time we are given opportunity which we deserve of being equally in political game, politics isn’t just for the old but the youths too,” Mutungi said.
He added, “We understand ourselves better and need jobs, education including every basic need for us as the youth to rise.”
Ngunjiri said UDA will field aspirants in all political positions across the Eastern region counties.
